When can you reach a Japanese car dealer? Japan time, public holidays and the dealer's own hours

Sources checked 4 October 2026

If you're writing to or phoning a dealer in Japan from abroad, the first question is simple: what time is it there, and is anyone in? Japan runs on Japan Standard Time, nine hours ahead of UTC. This page shows the time in Japan now, whether today is a Japanese public holiday, and, if you put in the opening hours from the dealer's listing, when those hours fall in your own time.

Every dealer sets its own hours. We don't guess them for you, and nor should anyone else.

The table lists Japan's public holidays for 2026 and 2027, from the Cabinet Office's own list. The English names are ours.

What we found on three dealers' pages

On 4 October 2026 we opened the shop pages of three used car dealers in Aichi on Carsensor, a Japanese used car site. All three had a box for opening hours and a box for the regular closing day. No two said the same thing:

Opening hours Regular closing day
Dealer 1 10:00 to 20:00 for the shop, and 00:00 to 23:59 for phone enquiries None: open every day of the year
Dealer 2 10:00 to 19:00 Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 to 18:00 on Sundays and public holidays Every Monday
Dealer 3 10:00 to 18:00 Every Monday, and the second Tuesday of each month

Two of the three open on public holidays. One closes two days some weeks. That's why the tool asks for the hours on the listing rather than assuming any.

Where to find the hours on a Japanese listing

On a Japanese dealer's own page, or its page on a site like Carsensor or Goo-net, look for these words:

Japanese Romanised English
営業時間 eigyō jikan Opening hours
定休日 teikyūbi Regular closing day
年中無休 nenjū mukyū Open every day of the year
祝日 shukujitsu Public holiday

Some pages give separate hours for the phone, as dealer 1's does, or different hours at weekends, as dealer 2's does. Read the whole box.

How to use it

  1. Choose where you are. The tool uses your device's own clock and time-zone rules, including summer time where you live.
  2. Read the time in Japan, and whether today is a public holiday there.
  3. Put in the opening hours and the closing day from the listing. The tool shows the next seven days, with those hours in your own time.
  4. Plan your email or call for inside those hours. If the listing says nothing, or the dealer doesn't reply, that's an answer of a kind too.

Nothing you put in leaves the page.

If you'd rather not chase a dealer across time zones in Japanese, a Remote Check is where we phone them in Japanese, during their hours, and ask your questions.
