What would a car viewing in Japan cost? An estimator from our published prices

Sources checked 4 October 2026

If the car is at a dealer in Japan and you'd like it looked at in person, the price depends on two things: how far the dealer is from us, and when the visit is. This page works it out from the prices in our Terms of Service, the same ones on the On-Site Vehicle Viewing page. It's an estimate. Your quote is the price.

ItemPrice
On-Site Vehicle Viewing (one car, one dealer)¥55,000
Travel up to 40 km by road from Kuwana Station, each way (Nagoya Station is about 27 km)¥5,000 flat
Travel further away¥110 per km of the round trip, by the driving route on Google Maps from Kuwana Station. This covers motorway tolls, fuel, the car and travel time, whether we go by car or train. We quote before you pay.
Weekends and Japanese public holidays+30% of the viewing fee
Visit within 3 business days of booking (when we can fit it in)+30% of the viewing fee
Accommodation, only when a visit needs an overnight stayThe cost of the room. Your quote says how much, and whether it can be refunded. We say in your quote whether a visit needs one
Remote Check (one car, one dealer)¥20,000

The table above is section 7 of our Terms of Service, word for word.

How to use it

  1. Find the driving distance. On Google Maps, get directions by car from Kuwana Station to the dealer, and read the distance one way. That's the distance we use.
  2. Put it in. Up to 40 km one way, travel is a flat ¥5,000. Further away, it's ¥110 for every kilometre of the round trip. We round the round trip to the nearest kilometre.
  3. Tick what applies: a weekend or Japanese public holiday, a visit within 3 business days of booking, or a Remote Check on the same car first.
  4. Read the estimate, then send us the listing for a quote.

Nothing you type leaves the page.

Worked examples

Each line uses only the prices in the table. Tax isn't included in any of them, for the reason under the examples.

One way from Kuwana Station When Viewing Travel Surcharges Remote Check first Estimate
27 km (about Nagoya Station) Weekday ¥55,000 ¥5,000 – – ¥60,000
40 km Weekday ¥55,000 ¥5,000 – – ¥60,000
41 km Weekday ¥55,000 ¥9,020 (82 km × ¥110) – – ¥64,020
65.4 km Weekday ¥55,000 ¥14,410 (130.8 km, rounded to 131 km × ¥110) – – ¥69,410
100 km Saturday ¥55,000 ¥22,000 (200 km × ¥110) ¥16,500 (30% of the viewing fee) – ¥93,500
100 km Saturday, booked 2 days ahead ¥55,000 ¥22,000 ¥33,000 (60% of the viewing fee) – ¥110,000
27 km Weekday, after a Remote Check on the same car ¥55,000 ¥5,000 – −¥20,000 ¥40,000

Two things to notice. Travel jumps between 40 km and 41 km, because the flat ¥5,000 stops and the per-kilometre charge starts. And the surcharges are a share of the viewing fee only, not of the travel.

If your car is a long way off, check the Remote Check first: it works for a dealer anywhere in Japan. If you book an On-Site Vehicle Viewing of the same car within 14 days of the date we send you the Remote Check report, we deduct the ¥20,000 from the viewing price.

What the estimate leaves to your quote

These lines are from our Terms of Service, as written:

The estimate also can't tell you whether the dealer will let us visit, or the earliest date we can go. We ask the dealer before we quote.
